The Xmas decorations are down, the hangovers have passed, the chocolates are finished, the credit card is in tatters and it's back to the grind!
The festive season pivoted around the Old Firm match and, sadly, we did not really perform on the day. There's been plenty said, blame attributed to almost everyone and all sorts of suggestions for the way ahead - most of which won't be realised.
In the short term, we need to be winning matches - we play in both cups and have some crucial league matches in January. Sunday was a good start with a 3 nil victory - don't think too many would have forecast that score at half-time! What a great goal by Mendes and Boyd defied his critics with a double. Clearly, there is work to be done and the overall quality of play needs to improve quickly!
Transfer speculation is rife as usual and I always get the impression that journalists have a stab at a few sensational stories in the hope they get one correct - most are based on pure speculation and have no substance whatsover. One thing is certain though, the Club is in the position that all reasonable offers will be considered and that's a worry. We are likely to get bids for our better players and no interest in the poorer performers (many of whom are draining the coffers with good salaries).
I hope all HTB members and friends had a great Xmas and hope you all prosper in 2009. A few people to mention for their help recently - Richie at Dave Smith Loyal RSC for help on the day of the Old Firm match, Bruce at Dunfermline Loyal RSC for transport to Inverness and Roddy at Inverness True Blues RSC for putting on a good do on Saturday night.
